Welcome to the 21st Century, Buck

Today was the day.... They day the earth shook at the Painter's House. Not from some propagated elastic wave under Indiana's frozen fields of corn.... It came from the cable guy.

Arriving 15 minutes early, he strode into the house with one purpose...to bring this rustic ranch forward in time with Digital Cable and VoIP. Mercy.

Problem #1 There are about 3 phone outlets in the whole house, none of which are near the computer. The VoIP needs the modem to plug into the phone jack as well as the cable and computer. I suggested he use the phone jack in B's spare closet (I don't know why there is a phone jack in his closet) where there is cable nearby and let me keep two modems...one for the phone, one for the internet. He had to call two people to authorize without further charge. The first said no, the second said yes...game on. If you've ever seen Zoboomafoo, the Kratt Bros occasionally open their closet only to be buried in an explosion of junk...that's the picture.

Problem #2 They gave us an HDDVR. As long as there is no extra charge for this thats great! 90 hours of recording time should satisfy us for the next 10 years. We get the normal HD Channels (in Standard def) so why not. I fear the bill will be wrong but hey for now I will let this go.

Everything looks good (just dont look behind the tv).

We now have 90ish channels and when ATT "releases" our phone number there should be a seamless switch to the VoIP Router. The reason for the change was to get more for the money we were already spending...110 for basic cable, internet and phone. Now for a year the special price is 100 + taxes to make it a wash. After the year we will cancel it all and go back to rabbit ears!

Time to watch TV......awww, there's nothin' on
